Which compact SUV is the better buy?

While the 2019 Kia Sportage and 2019 Chevy Equinox SUVs are very similar offerings, one model has a few extra features that we think will help drivers and passengers enjoy their time on the road a little bit more.

As far as active safety and available amenities, both lineups should have no trouble impressing even the most discerning of buyers. The 2019 Sportage does offer a sunroof while the 2019 Equinox doesn’t, but for many buyers that feature won’t make or break a sale. Apple CarPlay is available in both models as well as a robust set of active safety equipment.

The 2019 Sportage does offer a larger standard engine with more power. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine on base 2019 Sportage models has an output of 181 horsepower which will give drivers a little more response from the accelerator, especially when the cabin is fully loaded, compared to the 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 170 horsepower on the base 2019 Equinox.

The 2019 Sportage also gives passengers a little extra room to stretch with a passenger volume of 98.6 cubic feet compared to the 2019 Equinox’s passenger volume of just 90 cubic feet. While the 2019 Equinox has a slightly larger max cargo volume, it’s only when the rear seats are folded flat. When the second-row is upright the 2019 Sportage offers .8 cubic feet more space which isn’t much but can help you fit an extra bag of groceries. Drivers can find the 2019 Kia Sportage on sale now at Moritz Kia in Fort Worth, TX.
