While many drivers know that vehicle identification numbers are important, it’s an easy piece of information to lose track of. Where can drivers find their Kia model’s VIN? What are vehicle identification numbers used for? We’ve addressed these questions and more in the blog post below.
The automotive industry uses unique serial numbers known as Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) to be able to identify specific vehicles. Because of this, no two vehicles share a VIN. Every VIN is 17 characters long and is made up of both digits and capital letters. To avoid confusion with the numerals 0 and 1, a VIN will never contain the letters I, O or Q.
In Kia models, drivers can find their vehicle’s VIN in several places. On the vehicle itself, the VIN may be located on the driver’s door jamb or on the lower front windshield on the driver’s side. Aside from the vehicle itself, drivers can also find their VIN on the vehicle’s registration card or in its sales contract.
Why are Vehicle Identification Numbers Important?
It’s important for drivers to know their vehicle’s Vehicle Identification Number for a variety of reasons, including warranty claims, theft, insurance coverage, recall tracking, registrations and more. The first 11 characters of a VIN represent production information such as the manufacturer, brand, engine size, model year and assembly plant of origin. The last six characters make up the vehicle’s serial number.
