Which 2018 Kia Models are IIHS Top Safety Picks?

Recently, the IIHS officially named their picks for IIHS Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ for the 2018 model year. In recent years, the IIHS has been known as the premier association for vehicle safety, meaning that if the IIHS awards a vehicle with Top Safety Pick, it means that the vehicle is the best of the best when it comes to safety, both for preventing accidents and preventing damage from accidents. Of all the vehicles from all major automakers, only 47 vehicles qualify for Top Safety Pick and 15 vehicles qualify for Top Safety Pick+. But what are the criteria for each of these awards? Criteria for IIHS Top Safety Pick+ and Kia Models to Earn Itred 2018 Kia Soul side view

With stricter criteria than ever before, the IIHS holds very high standards for who they deem to earn the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award. In order to earn this award, the vehicle must first earn good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. The vehicle must also earn acceptable or good ratings in the passenger-side small overlap front test. Finally, the vehicle must earn advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and a good headlight rating. Once it meets all these requirements, it is officially an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. The Kia models to earn IIHS Top Safety Pick+ include the 2018 Kia Forte and the 2018 Kia Soul.

While the standards for how the IIHS Top Safety Pick is awarded is not quite as strict as the standards for Top Safety Pick+, it is still an impressive accolade nonetheless. As far as the criteria for IIHS Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must first earn good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. Additionally, it must earn an advanced or superior rating in the front crash prevention tests and acceptable or good headlight ratings. The new Kia models to earn IIHS Top Safety Pick include the 2018 Kia Optima, 2018 Kia Cadenza and 2018 Kia Sorento.
